OREANDA-NEWS  Indonesia intends to join the BRICS, follows from the statement of the country's Foreign Ministry following the participation of the head of the department in the BRICS summit in Kazan.

"At the BRICS Plus summit, Foreign Minister Sugiono expressed Indonesia's intention to join the BRICS. Joining the BRICS means that Indonesia does not choose a side, but strengthens its position as a bridge between developed and developing countries, committed to strengthening food security, energy sustainability and poverty reduction in the Global South. Indonesia continues to actively participate in various forums, including the G20 and G7," the country's Foreign Ministry said in a statement following participation in the forum.

The ministry added that at the BRICS summit, Indonesia reaffirmed the importance of global solidarity and called for a ceasefire in Palestine and Lebanon.

"Sugiono stressed the role of BRICS in strengthening cooperation between the countries of the Global South and promoting the common interests of developing countries. Indonesia stressed the need for multilateral reform to make it more inclusive and representative at the BRICS Plus summit, the ministry said.
