India Suspends Delivery of «AstraZeneca» Vaccine to Ukraine
OREANDA-NEWS. The export of the «Oxford/AstraZeneca» vaccine from India to Ukraine has been suspended, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said. Earlier, Ukrainian Health Minister Maxim Stepanov reported on the problem with obtaining permission to import a coronavirus vaccine from India. According to him, Ukraine is using every opportunity to obtain such a permit from the Indian government.
«We should have received the next batch by now. But now the export of the «Oxford/AstraZeneca» vaccine from India is put on pause. I will not go into the reasons for this decision. Some of them are public, some are non-public», Kuleba said at a briefing on Friday, March 26.
The plane from India with 500 thousand doses of the «Oxford/AstraZeneca» vaccine against COVID-19 arrived in Kiev on February 23. Vaccination in Ukraine began on February 24. Since the beginning of the vaccination campaign, 174.325 people have been vaccinated. On Thursday, a plane arrived in the country with the first batch of the Chinese «CoronaVac» vaccine from «Sinovac Biotech».
Earlier, the «Hindustan Times», citing sources, reported that India, due to the growing number of people infected with coronavirus in the country, will focus on vaccinating the population and will not expand the vaccine export program. According to the interlocutors of the publication, the ban on the export of vaccines will not be introduced, although deliveries to other countries will occur after domestic needs are met.
