India is now in the second place in the world in the number of detected cases of coronavirus. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health, more than 18.7 million cases of COVID-19 have been registered in the country. More than 15.3 million people have recovered, 208 thousand people have died from coronavirus and related diseases.

The rise in the number of cases in India has continued since mid-February, bringing the number of people treated for COVID-19 to more than 3.1 million.

The largest number of coronavirus cases in India was in the state of Maharashtra. Over the past day, the state reported more than 66.1 thousand cases, almost 3 thousand more than on Thursday. At the same time, the number of people who have recovered is growing, the total number of people receiving treatment in the state has decreased by 2 thousand - to 672 thousand people. Following Maharashtra, the largest number of new cases of the disease was detected in the states of Kerala (38 607 people), Uttar Pradesh (35 104 cases), Karnataka (35 024 cases) and Delhi (24 235 cases).

At the same time, the Ministry of Health noted that more than 152 million people were vaccinated against coronavirus in India, in the last day alone the number of vaccinated people increased by 2.2 million.
