OREANDA-NEWS. The Lviv and Rivne regional councils of Ukraine appealed to President Volodymyr Zelensky with a request to rename Russia Muscovy, and Russians - Muscovites. This is reported by the publication "Ukrainian Truth".

The MPs believe that Russia is misusing its name.

Earlier, the deputies of the Lviv Regional Council voted to rename Russia to Muscovy. It is noted that at the meeting the initiative was supported by 59 deputies. The draft also emphasizes that the change in the name of the Moscow kingdom to Russia is "a serious challenge to the identity of the Ukrainian people."

“We, the deputies of the Lviv Regional Council, are sending an appeal to the President of Ukraine and parliamentarians of the Verkhovna Rada with a demand to restore historical justice and in the future use the name“ Muscovy ”instead of Russia and the Russian Federation at the state, official, public levels, as well as in the media on the territory of Ukraine ... In relation to the citizens of the Russian Federation, accordingly, the name "Muscovites" should be used, - said in the document of the initiative of the Lviv deputies.

The draft also emphasizes that the change in the name of the Moscow kingdom to Russia is "a serious challenge to the identity of the Ukrainian people."

Earlier, Taras Kremin, Ombudsman for the Protection of the State Language in Ukraine, suggested that the local authorities rename about 20 settlements in Ukraine, which "bear Russian-language names."
