OREANDA-NEWS  More than 30 thousand Syrian students are currently studying Russian, Syrian Education Minister Durham Tabaa told RIA Novosti.

"We cooperate with each other in all areas and have now started teaching Russian, which is currently being studied by more than 30 thousand students," the minister said.

At the same time, he pointed out that "the number of students who want to study Russian is much greater than the number of teaching staff, which prevents the opening of new branches." Russian Russian language studies in Syria are of great interest to the Ministry of Education of the republic, according to Tabaa, discussing with the Russian side the creation of institutes for the training of teachers of the Russian language in order to attract some of the former students who have already completed their studies. In addition, the Syrian Ministry of Education plans to increase the exchange of students with Russia.

"The number of scholarships provided for Syrians to study at Russian universities has greatly increased, which, of course, gives Syrian students the opportunity to get acquainted with the Russian education system, and there is a great demand for these scholarships in light of the limited opportunities for studying at European universities," the head of the Ministry of Education added.
