OREANDA-NEWS The elections to the Parliament of Georgia are an ordinary process, and not a struggle of "Europe against Russia", as the opposition is trying to present it. This was stated by Nikoloz Samkharadze, a deputy of the ruling Georgian Dream party in the country, in an interview with the Financial Times (FT).

"The opposition presents these elections as a geopolitical choice, "Europe versus Russia." (...) We [Georgian Dream] do not consider them as elections that will determine the fate of Georgia for the next 500 years," he said.

Samkharadze stressed that for the ruling party, these are ordinary elections, where the future of the economy, social security, infrastructure, as well as the preservation of peace and stability are determined. According to the FT, outside observers consider the upcoming elections to be the most important. In their opinion, they will determine "whether the country will become a sovereign democracy."

Earlier, the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, announced an impending coup d'etat after the October 26 elections. According to him, the reason for the riots will be the actions of monitoring non-governmental organizations.
