In Chernobyl, Fire Reached Storage Facilities for Radioactive Waste
OREANDA-NEWS. The fire in the Chernobyl zone reached the ghost city of Pripyat and came to the storage facility for highly radioactive waste.
This was reported by Yaroslav Yemelyanenko, a member of the public council at the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management, on his Facebook page. According to the official, the fire is moving towards the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, as the wind blows towards it.
Forest fire near the village of Vladimirovka began on April 4, later another hotbed formed near the settlement of Ragovka on an area of about 5 hectares. Today, because of the strong wind, fire came to the railway station Yanov located 4 kilometers from the nuclear power plant. More than 390 people and 90 units of equipment are involves in fire extinguishing.
According to Ukrainian law enforcement officers, the cause of the fire was arson. The identity of the criminal has already been established.
