In Baghdad, Protesters Launched an Assault on the US Embassy

OREANDA-NEWS. In Baghdad, hundreds of protesters attempted to storm the gates of the US embassy, Al Arabiya TV channel reported. Clashes at the embassy continue. According to the Associated Press, the demonstrators are supporters of the Shiite militia, protesting against US air strikes, which killed several members of the Kataib Hezbollah group.
Protesters set up tents at the embassy, set up surveillance cameras and threw stones and bottles of water at the diplomatic mission building. They also, shouting anti-American slogans, painted the walls and windows of the graffiti embassy building in support of the group.
Alsumaria has reported that demonstrators set fire to part of the building’s fence. According to AP, about a dozen protesters broke into the embassy, tear gas was used against them. Sounds of gunfire are also heard.
US Ambassador to Baghdad Matthew Toller left for an unknown destination, Al Arabiya sources said. According to them, the rest of the diplomatic mission also left Baghdad through the international airport. Diplomats were evacuated for security reasons, two Iraqi Foreign Ministry officials told Reuters. According to them, security remains in the embassy building.
