Germany Wants to Buyback From the US the Lifting of Sanctions Against the Nord Stream 2
Source: OREANDA-NEWS
OREANDA-NEWS Olaf Scholz, who is Germany's finance minister, has offered assistance to the administration of former US President Donald Trump to import American liquefied gas in exchange for lifting sanctions on Russia's Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. The attempt to conclude a deal is reported by the Deutsche Welle news agency with reference to the German environmental non-governmental organization Environmental Action Germany.
According to this information, the German government agreed to provide the United States with financial support of up to one billion euros. In return, Germany wanted that future US legislation, which could lead to sanctions against Nord Stream 2, would either not be used or would be blocked by denials or other effective instruments.
Sasha Müller-Krenner, who is the executive director of Germany's environmental organization, called the planned deal a "dirty deal at the expense of third parties."
The German department has not yet commented on this information.
