OREANDA-NEWS. German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock said her country would do everything to further isolate Russia. This is reported by Reuters.
According to the head of German diplomacy, the special operation in Ukraine made it clear that the EU and the world, which believes in an order built on rules, should isolate the Russian regime. Berlin was going to cut all channels to isolate the Russian government, reports Deutsche Welle.
But at the same time, Burbock declined to answer the question of what actions could provoke sanctions against the Russian energy sector. Berlin intends to get rid of dependence in this area "gradually but decisively."
Earlier, German Cabinet spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said that the German government is still convinced that it cannot refuse Russian oil. However, he stressed that the EU's reaction to Russia's actions will be discussed at a meeting in Brussels, and the German Cabinet will not "anticipate" the outcome of these discussions.
Earlier, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell confirmed that EU foreign ministers intend to discuss the possibility of refusing to import oil from Russia.
Also, Slovenian Foreign Minister Anže Logar said that the Foreign Ministers of the EU countries would decide to close ports for Russian ships and ban energy imports from Russia.
