OREANDA-NEWS. German Customs and Border Control officials arrested a German citizen, Alexander S., suspected of breaking the embargo on equipment for the military needs of Russia. As reported on the website of the German Prosecutor General’s Office, this is a violation of the Foreign Trade and Payments Act.
It is specified that he was detained in Augsburg in the south-west of Bavaria on Tuesday, February 11. The managing director of an unnamed company based in southern Germany is suspected of seven offenses, with "in each case, he could act on a commercial basis in the interests of intelligence from another state". His apartment in Augsburg and a total of 12 premises of his company in Bavaria, Berlin and Saxony were searched.
In the summer of 2014, the European Union imposed anti-Russian economic sanctions due to the “Russian actions” destabilizing the situation in southeastern Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea. Initially, they were introduced for a period of one year, but then they were subsequently extended. Among other things, Brussels imposed an arms embargo on Russia and restricted the export of dual-use goods intended for military use in Russia.
