OREANDA-NEWS. 98 years old French fashion designer Pierre Cardin died. This was reported by the French Academy of Fine Arts on Twitter.

Pierre Cardin was born in Italy in 1922. He began his career in 1946 as a theater artist, then he worked in the studio for Christian Dior, and in 1950 he founded his own fashion house. The designer has patented more than 500 inventions, including high boots, mini sundresses, coloured stockings, skinny trousers with buttons, and others.

Cardin was the first couturier to create a collection for a wide range of consumers, presenting it at a show at the store Printemps in Paris. For this, the Parisian haute couture syndicate excluded the designer from its ranks.

In 1985, Cardin became the first couturier elected as a member of the French Academy of Fine Arts, becoming an honorary academician.

His name is on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
