OREANDA-NEWS. Former leader of the Franco-Japanese automotive alliance Renault - Nissan - Mitsubishi Carlos Ghosn can count on French consular support after fleeing to Lebanon from Japan, where he was under house arrest. This was announced on Tuesday by the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Economy and Finance of France, Agnes Panier-Runache.
“He is not above the law”, said the Secretary of State. “If a foreign citizen escaped from French justice, we would be extremely annoyed. However, like any Frenchman, he has the right to consular support and we must provide it”.
Pannier Runache declined to comment on the fact of the flight of the former top manager of the automobile alliance, as well as his statement about the conditions of detention in Japan. “We need to understand what happened”, she said, adding that she herself learned about the incident on Monday evening from the media.
“What interests us is the future of the Renault-Nissan alliance”, the Secretary of State emphasized, adding that she does not believe that what happened could affect its existence.
