OREANDA-NEWS Finland continues to transit Russian nuclear fuel. This was assured by the representative of the press service of the Finnish Radiation and Nuclear Safety Administration (STUK) Risto Isaksson, TASS reports.
"Nuclear fuel itself is not subject to sanctions, and it can be expected that transit will be carried out until sanctions are imposed on nuclear fuel," he said.
According to Isaksson, there were several transits in 2023, the last of which was in December. The representative of the Finnish regulator refused to specify exactly how the transportation was carried out in the conditions of the almost closed border between Russia and Finland.
Earlier, Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen said that the country is completely independent of Russian energy resources. According to her, Finland has enough of its own resources and electricity production to meet its needs. She noted that the republic is looking for opportunities for large-scale investments in nuclear and renewable energy.
