OREANDA-NEWS Rosselkhoznadzor employees have revealed the facts of illegal trade in pet food in Russia. The incidents were recorded during the monitoring of various web pages on the Internet, according to the agency's website.
The reason for the inspections, as specified in the Rosselkhoznadzor, was the mass appeals of pet owners. During the analysis on the websites of a number of Internet sites, in particular, the facts of the sale of a wide range of Hill's feeds were revealed. The department recalled that sales of American manufacturer's products in the Russian Federation were limited due to the absence of turkey DNA in its composition, stated on the labeling label.
In addition, as the Rosselkhoznadzor added, cases of the sale of Canadian brands Acana and Orijen feeds in the Russian segment of the Internet were identified. In relation to them, the department explained, in mid-June 2021, restrictions on sales in Russia were also introduced. During the inspection, it was found that Garfield, Little Paws and Leopold companies registered in Belarus were involved in the sale of feed prohibited for transportation to the Russian Federation.
Deliveries of the above-mentioned goods arrived in the Russian Federation without veterinary accompanying documents, which makes them difficult to track, the department said. "This contributes to the entry into circulation of feed of unknown origin with unconfirmed quality and safety indicators," the Rosselkhoznadzor concluded.
Restrictions on the import of animal feed to Russia from the Italian enterprise of the American company Hill's were introduced by the department at the end of January 2024. At that time, the Rosselkhoznadzor explained its decision, including the lack of laboratory control over the component composition of the feed, stated on the label. In addition, employees of the department stated that the temperature treatment of raw materials in the production of these feeds was insufficient and there was no information about the origin of the raw materials. All these factors, experts summarized, make these products potentially dangerous for consumption by pets.
