OREANDA-NEWS. The US is using the pandemic situation of the new coronavirus in Venezuela to increase political and military pressure on the country's legitimate authorities. This was announced on Tuesday by Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, speaking at a meeting of the Security Council.

“We would like to thank our colleagues in the Council who suddenly showed a desire to discuss the humanitarian situation in Venezuela at the very moment when we raised the issue of United States attempts to use the pandemic situation in Venezuela on April 22 to increase political and military pressure on the country's legitimate government", he noted.

Polyansky expressed doubt about the validity of the discussion in the Security Council of the humanitarian situation in Venezuela. “According to WHO, Venezuela currently has about 325 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 10 deaths caused by it, which puts Venezuela at the very end of the sad list of Latin American countries in terms of incidence of COVID-19”, the diplomat emphasized. “For comparison, in the neighboring Colombia recorded 5,379 cases and 244 deaths".
