Evacuation Due to Volcanic Eruption Began in the Philippines
OREANDA-NEWS. CNN Philippines reports that due to the eruption of Taal Volcano, the evacuation of residents of several settlements began. Forced evacuation is carried out “in some areas in Tagaytay City in Cavite, and in Balete, Laurel, San Nicolas and Agoncillo towns in Batangas.”
The Alert Level 4 was raised after the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology recorded an increase in volcanic activity and a strong explosion at about 2 p.m. local time, which resulted in the formation of an ash column 1 kilometer high. According to experts of the Institute, if volcanic activity continues, “hazardous explosive eruption” can occur.
It is mentioned that the high activity of Taal Volcano has been observed since March 28, 2019; several minor earthquakes were registered in the province of Batangas.
