«Today the EU Council has prolonged sanctions against Russia for illegal occupation of Crimea untill June, 2021. Thank you for that decision. It is necessary to increase pressure because of human rights violations, «passportization», launch of railway communication through the Kerch Strait, illegal voting in Crimea. Crimea is Ukraine,» Dmytro Kuleba, the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, wrote.
In May, it was reported that a special representative for sanctions policy appeared in the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry. One of his tasks is to increase international pressure on Russia as an «aggressor state».
Anti-Russian sanctions by the U.S., the European Union and a number of other countries were introduced due to the entry of the Crimea into Russia in 2014 and aggravation of the situation in the south-east of Ukraine. The economic restrictions imposed by Brussels on Moscow are regularly extended. They were last extended for six months in December 2019.
