OREANDA-NEWS. Secretary of State at the French Foreign Ministry Clement Bon, following a meeting in Brussels of the EU Council on General Affairs, said that the EU countries are discussing the introduction of new sanctions against Russia due to the ongoing military special operation in Ukraine, TASS reports.
He added that recently the countries of Europe have been witnessing an "intensification of hostilities", so new sanctions will be worked out fairly quickly.
Earlier, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell confirmed that EU foreign ministers intend to discuss the possibility of refusing to import oil from Russia.
The reason for the new restrictions against Russia was the operation on the territory of Ukraine, the organization explained.
"Ministers will discuss this issue," Borrell said.
On Monday, March 21, the head of EU diplomacy arrived at a meeting of the Council of the organization in Brussels.
The timing of the imposition of sanctions against the Russian oil industry is not yet known.
