OREANDA-NEWS. Turkey must abide by international law and avoid actions that undermine peaceful relations with its neighbors. This was stated on Monday at a press conference in Brussels by the representative of the EU foreign service Peter Stano, commenting on the memorandum of understanding between Turkey and Libya on the sea zones. "You know that the EU has repeatedly emphasized that Turkey must respect international law and respect the neighborhood and avoid any actions that undermine peaceful neighborly relations", he said, answering the corresponding question of journalists.
An agreement on military cooperation between Turkey and the recognized international community, the Government of National Accord (PNC), was signed in Istanbul on November 28, which provides for the training, preparation, structuring of the legal base, as well as strengthening relations between the military of the two countries. A memorandum of understanding between Turkey and Libya on maritime zones was also signed, causing a sharp reaction from Athens.
Immediately after this, the Greek Foreign Ministry urgently called on the Turkish ambassador to receive explanations regarding the signed document, which Athens regarded as ignoring the geographical interests of Greece and violating the sovereign rights of third countries.
