OREANDA-NEWS Starting from August 8, Estonia will introduce full customs control at the border with the Russian Federation instead of the selective one that was in effect earlier. This is reported by RIA Novosti. According to the country's Foreign Minister Margus Tsakhna, the decision was made with the intention to prevent circumvention of anti-Russian sanctions.
According to the ERR broadcasting company, the Estonian government got acquainted on Thursday with a plan that provides for a gradual transition to full control of all people and goods crossing the border towards Russia.
Strengthening control in this area was announced about a month ago by the country's Prime Minister Kaya Kallas, who clarified that Estonian border guards would carefully inspect every shipment of goods bound for the Russian Federation, since automated risk control and random checks, in her opinion, are not enough.
Kallas also called for increased sanctions against Russia, noting that painful steps for European states in this direction will help end the Ukrainian conflict. Having made such statements, she resigned as head of government in connection with her appointment as head of the European Union's foreign policy service.
