OREANDA-NEWS. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan expressed concern that, in his opinion, mercenaries might be fighting on the side of the forces of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar. This was reported on Friday by the Turkish TV channel. "Who knows who pays for the mercenaries. In Libya, such a situation, of course, it would be wrong for us to remain observers", the president said.
Meanwhile, Erdogan noted that various countries show interest in Libya: "Egypt, the UAE, France and even Italy". "Now, although Russia itself does not show up, it has an educated military company. America has many similar companies. For example, such companies formed from former military companies are present in Afghanistan. They pay them a lot of money and they go there, they fight illegally in Afghanistan", Erdogan said.
Currently, there are two executive authorities in Libya in parallel: the internationally recognized Government of National Accord (PNS) Faiz Saraj and the temporary cabinet of Abdullah Abdurrahman al-Thani, acting in the east of the country together with the parliament and supported by the LNA. On April 4, Haftar ordered the start of a large-scale operation in Tripoli. The confrontation led to the deaths of hundreds of people and the destruction of important infrastructure facilities, thousands of local residents were forced to leave their homes.
