OREANDA-NEWS. Dozens of eco-activists blocked for several hours on Friday the headquarters of the French branch of the Amazon e-commerce company. As reported by the French radio station, the protest is timed to coincide with the largest day of sales of goods at discounted prices - Black Friday.
The action, held near the city of Clichy in the suburbs of Paris, was attended, in particular, by activists Greenpeace, Attac and Extinction Rebellion. Eco-activists held banners urging them to abandon the mass consumption of goods, which only negatively affects the environment and climate of the planet due to increased industrial activity and transportation. “Stop Black Fridays! Such activities can't go unpunished”, read one of the posters. The other demanded that the French National Assembly restrict Amazon activities. "Deputies, make a choice: either climate protection or Amazon!" - read the inscription.
“Today, Amazon’s greenhouse gas emissions have reached an entire country”, said Jean-Francois Juillard, head of Greenpeace, France’s French office. He noted that the company "could significantly reduce the emission of hazardous gases by changing its transport policy, in particular, mass transportation of goods by air".
