OREANDA-NEWS. The details of the new sanctions of the European Union against the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko have become known. EU Ambassador to Belarus Dirk Schuebel spoke about this in an interview with Deutsche Welle.
The fifth package of EU sanctions against the Lukashenko regime will target individuals and companies that are involved in organizing illegal migration from the Middle East to Europe.
According to Shubel, in addition to this, Brussels considered the issue of imposing sanctions against the Belarusian air carrier Belavia, as well as the import of potash fertilizers. However, as Schuebel emphasized, in this respect everything depends on the actions of the Belarusian authorities.
"If political prisoners are not released, if violence against civilians continues, then all options are possible," Schuebel said. The EU Ambassador added that Western countries are very concerned about the situation with the violation of the rights of Belarusians and hope to achieve an end to the persecution of citizens, including through sanctions.
On October 26, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany revealed the scheme of the "Belarusian transit" of refugees to the EU. Earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that the "transportation" of migrants across the border of Belarus with the countries of the European Union, which Minsk is actually engaged in, is a hybrid threat to the European community. Prior to that, the leaders of the EU countries agreed on a package of new sanctions against the government of Belarus due to the situation with migrants.
