Crimea Intends to Sue Ukraine for Organizing Five Blockades of the Peninsula
OREANDA-NEWS. Crimea intends to sue Ukraine for organizing five blockades: water, energy, transport, food and banking. This was reported to RIA Novosti by the chairman of the committee on legislation of the Crimean State Council, deputy head of the working group on assessing the consequences of the blockade, Sergei Trofimov.
He noted that the claims for water and energy blockades will be the most ambitious. The first of these is planned to be submitted in the fall.
"The basis of the claim has already been formed. Now there is documentary support for the amount of damage, literally to a penny," Trofimov said.
According to preliminary estimates, the amount of damage is 1.47 trillion rubles, he added.
Crimea is experiencing problems with fresh water after in 2014, after the reunification of the peninsula with Russia, Ukraine unilaterally blocked the North Crimean Canal from the Dnieper. The issue of water supply was solved at the expense of reservoirs of natural filling and underground sources, but last year they became significantly shallow, in some cities it was necessary to limit the supply of water.
Now the acute deficit has been eliminated. The government has prepared a comprehensive plan to ensure a reliable water supply to the peninsula, allocating about 50 billion rubles for this.
In the spring, two wells were launched at the new Beshterek-Zuisky water intake, built to supply Simferopol. This covers the needs of at least 25 thousand people, and after the complete commissioning of the facility - up to one hundred thousand residents. In addition, work continues on the search for new underground reserves. At the end of July, the first batch of fresh water was extracted under the Sea of Azov.
