Chinese Vaccine Trial Participant Died of Pneumonia
OREANDA-NEWS. One of the participants in the trials of the Chinese coronavirus vaccine died in Peru. This was reported on the website of the University of Peru Cayetano Heredia.
According to the information released to the public, the woman died due to pneumonia caused by COVID-19. It is noted that they began to treat her and was hospitalized as soon as the disease was detected. Despite the efforts of doctors, the woman died. “We express our condolences to the family,” the message says.
The university said that the woman was a volunteer and participated in the third phase of clinical trials of a vaccine from the Chinese company Sinopharm. It was initially stated that it is not known if she was receiving the real drug. Later, the university emphasized that death had nothing to do with the vaccine: the deceased received a placebo.
The Chinese authorities approved the launch of the drug from Sinopharm at the end of December. The inactivated Chinese vaccine was reported to be 79.34 percent effective, meeting and exceeding World Health Organization requirements.
There are currently several COVID-19 vaccines in the world. Two vaccines are registered in Russia: Sputnik V and EpiVacCorona. In the United States, they began to inoculate the population with drugs from Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna. Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines have been approved in the UK.
