This was announced on Friday at a conference on non-proliferation by the director of the department for arms control of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China Fu Tsun.

“China does not shy away from fulfilling its duties, does not shy away from responsibility. We are ready to reduce nuclear arsenals to honest levels. If other countries keep their arsenals to the level of China, we are ready to join this process”, the diplomat said. “However, it's unrealistic to expect that China will join the trilateral talks with Russia and the United States on disarmament".

The Chinese diplomat expressed concern about the current situation in the field of arms control. "We see growing rivalry. The US is striving for military superiority over Russia and China in all areas. They are withdrawing from bilateral and multilateral agreements on arms control and non-proliferation", he said. Fu Tsong also noted that a nuclear war cannot be fought and cannot be defeated. “Everyone should understand this”, he said.
