OREANDA-NEWS Tajikistan will receive 300 million yuan (about $40.7 million) from the Chinese government in the form of gratuitous assistance for the implementation of various projects agreed upon by the states. This is reported by TASS with reference to materials published in the post-Soviet country.
In early July, during the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Dushanbe, the press service of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon announced the signing of the relevant document, without giving details, the agency recalls. It is noted that the draft agreement was approved by the government of Tajikistan, and during the use of the donated tens of millions, it will be necessary to "regularly report to the governments of the two countries."
In the first half of 2024, almost 40 percent of the assistance received by Tajikistan, including infrastructure projects, came from China. In particular, during the visit of the Chinese leader, new buildings of the government and parliament of the country were opened, built with the participation of specialists and using financing from the People's Republic of China.
Shortly after the end of the visit, the Tajik Foreign Ministry said that the countries were "sincere strategic partners." The agency denied reports about China's creation of a military base in the republic.
