British Supreme Court Rejects Azerbaijani Banker's Wife's Claim for Property Confiscation
OREANDA-NEWS. According to the website kp.ru, the British Supreme Court decided not to reconsider the case of the wife of Azerbaijani banker Zamira Hajiyeva. It is quite possible that now her property in the country will be confiscated.
Hajiyeva, who lives in London, applied to the Supreme Court with a request to overturn the decision to confiscate her property, issued in the fall of 2018 as part of the fight against money laundering.
Zamira Hajiyeva attracted the attention of the British authorities after spending £ 16 million in a London department store, as well as making several extravagant purchases worth several million.
It is reported that in 2018, Hajiyeva was arrested in accordance with the Unexplained Welfare Ordinance issued at that time.
The British authorities are convinced that the woman's innormally huge spending does not correspond to the official level of earnings of her husband, who has been serving a sentence in one of the prisons of Azerbaijan since 2016 on charges of embezzlement.
Azerbaijan has sent already a request to London to extradite Hajiyeva as part of the investigation of her husband's case, but the Westminster Court decided to refuse the request.
