British Retailers Refuse to Use Plastic Bags
OREANDA-NEWS Major retailers in the UK, including Tesco, Asda and Iceland, have announced they are not using plastic bags in their stores. This measure, as reported by The Times, is aimed at combating plastic waste in the kingdom.
Now Tesco and Asda supermarkets will no longer use plastic containers to deliver products ordered via the Internet to their customers.
Tesco finally abandon the use of plastic bags in the middle of August. From now on, their delivery service staff will offer customers to take goods from special reusable trays. This step will save about 250 million plastic bags and about 20 tons of plastic annually.
Trading network Asda, as indicated by The Times, will stop using plastic containers at the end of July. In turn, Iceland, instead of traditional plastic bags, will offer its customers "heavy-duty paper" worth 15 pence.
