OREANDA-NEWS The United Kingdom and eight of its allies have invested more than 1 billion pounds in the International Fund for Support of Ukraine (IFU), established in 2022, the British Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
The statement was published against the background of the visit of Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov to London on Tuesday.
"Eight countries from all over the world have joined the UK to provide more than 1 billion pounds for the International Fund for Support of Ukraine (IFU)," the document posted on the British government's website says.
The largest contribution to the International Fund for Support of Ukraine in the amount of 500 million pounds was made by the United Kingdom. IFU donors also include Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Australia and New Zealand.
British Defense Minister John Healy also confirmed the signing of a contract worth 300 million pounds from the fund for military supplies to Ukraine. As part of this contract, which was announced at the NATO summit in July, Kiev will receive "thousands" of 152-millimeter artillery shells by the end of the year, the statement said. In total, Ukraine will receive 120,000 rounds of ammunition over the next year and a half, the ministry said. It is noted that this is the largest package of assistance to Ukraine within the framework of the fund's activities.
Russia believes that arms supplies to Ukraine interfere with the settlement and directly involve NATO countries in the conflict. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo that contains weapons for Kiev will become a legitimate target for Russia. According to him, the United States and NATO are directly involved in the conflict, including not only by supplying weapons, but also by training personnel in the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, and other countries. The Kremlin stated that pumping Ukraine with weapons from the West does not contribute to negotiations.
