"Big Sale of Prisons" Started in Ukraine
OREANDA-NEWS. The first prison was put up for sale in Ukraine as part of the "big prison sale". This was announced by the Minister of Justice of the country Denis Malyuska.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Minister of Justice announced the start of a "big sale" of penal institutions. In total, it is planned to sell over 100 objects of this kind in Ukraine. The press service of the Ministry of Justice reported that in mid-February the department plans to put up for sale the first object - a correctional center in Kotsyubinsky near Kiev.
Denis Malyuska wrote on his Facebook page: "The first one went!" Big sale of prisons "has reached the stage of the first auction. If someone has an extra 220 million hryvnia (about 7.85 million dollars) and wants to buy a small prison a few kilometers from Kiev - welcome ".
The minister said that 70% of the proceeds from the sale will be spent on the development of new prison infrastructure that will meet European standards, and 30% will replenish the state budget.
He also said that soon new lots will appear "on the prison sale".
Earlier it was reported that paid cells began to operate in prisons in Ukraine. This measure was also taken to get additional income for the budget. This proposal was made by the head of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine Denis Malyuska.
In 2021, based on the results of the experiment, the issue of its consolidation at the legislative level will be considered.
