OREANDA-NEWS The United States is disappointed with the "anti-democratic actions" of the Georgian government due to the adoption of the law on foreign agents. American leader Joe Biden wrote about this in a letter to Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili on the occasion of the 16th anniversary of the outbreak of hostilities in South Ossetia, TASS reports.
"I am disappointed by the anti-democratic actions of the Georgian government and, in particular, the adoption of the law on foreign agents. In addition, there are live statements by Georgian officials, which categorically does not comply with the norms of membership in the European Union (EU) and NATO," Biden said.
At the same time, the US president added that Washington is committed to the Euro-Atlantic integration of Tbilisi, and also protects "common values", which include peace, stability, freedom and human rights.
On June 3, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili signed the law on foreign agents. He stated that the law is aimed at strengthening the political, economic and social condition of the country against external interference. On July 31, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that Washington had decided to suspend aid to Georgia because of the signing of this document.
