OREANDA-NEWS. At least 35 people died during a stampede during a farewell ceremony with Kassem Suleimani, who served as commander of the Al-Quds special forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in southeast Iran in the city of Kerman. This was reported on Tuesday by the Iranian Broadcasting Corporation.
It's also noted that the number of victims, according to preliminary data, is 48 people. According to medical services, the crowding was caused by too many participants who came from all over the province to say goodbye to the legendary soldier. The situation around Iran sharply worsened after the US strike in the area of Baghdad airport on the night of January 3, as a result of which Suleymani died. Tehran promised Washington to respond firmly to this.
The actions of the Americans, who have been attacking Shiite groups in Iraq since December 29, have criticized the Iraqi authorities and the legitimacy of the actions of the coalition led by Washington. On January 5, the Iraqi parliament adopted a resolution demanding the complete withdrawal of all foreign troops from the country. US President Donald Trump refused to do so, threatening Iraq with "unprecedented sanctions".
