OREANDA-NEWS Experts said that due to the blocked road to Mauna Kea, astronomical observations of 2,000 hours were canceled. Recent events upset researchers.
Telescopes should be available 24 hours a day to resume regular observations so that specialists can quickly respond to weather changes and other astronomical phenomena. Recently, however, observatory employees have been unable to do their direct duties, as Hawaiian indigenous people protest against the construction of another huge telescope on Mount Mauna Kea.
Astronomers have already canceled more than 2,000 hours of observation, which could be of great benefit to science. The resumption of the observatory is planned to be completed in the near future. Protests started on July 15 of this year.
