OREANDA-NEWS The founder of WikiLeaks has been released from prison in the UK, the company reports on the social network.

"Julian Assange is free. He left Belmarsh maximum security prison on the morning of June 24, having spent 1901 days there," WikiLeaks said in a statement.

It is noted that the High Court of London released Assange on bail.

"In the afternoon, he was released at Stansted Airport, where he boarded a plane and took off from the UK," the company said.

WikiLeaks has confirmed that lengthy negotiations with the US Department of Justice have led to a deal that has not yet been "officially finalized."

"When he returns to Australia, we thank everyone who stood by us, fought for us and remained fully committed in the fight for his freedom," the company said.

Earlier, a number of media outlets reported that the founder of WikiLeaks had agreed to a plea deal with the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden, which would allow him to avoid imprisonment in the United States.

The Hill clarifies that Assange, as part of the deal, pleads guilty to conspiracy to illegally obtain and disseminate information about national defense.

Under the terms of the new agreement, Justice Department prosecutors will seek a 62-month prison sentence, which is equal to the time Assange served in a high-security prison in London.

As the media emphasize, the plea deal must be approved by a federal judge.

The Associated Press reports that Assange will appear in federal court on Wednesday morning, June 26 on the largest island of the Northern Mariana Islands, Saipan. The founder of WikiLeaks has been released from prison in the UK, the company reports on the social network.
