More Than 70% of Germans Support the Construction of "Nord stream-2"
OREANDA-NEWS The construction of the "Nord stream-2" gas pipeline is supported by 73% of Germans. As reported on Monday, the newspaper Neue Presse, this is evidenced by a survey conducted by the sociological service Forsa commissioned by RTL media group.
While US President Donald Trump is confident that the "Nord stream-2" pipeline, which is laid on the bottom of the Baltic sea, will make Germany dependent on Russia, 67% of Germans do not share these concerns. According to the publication, only 16% of Germans believe that "the project should be abandoned."
As for the political views of respondents, 52% of supporters of the right-populist party "Alternative for Germany" (ADH) agree with the opinion of trump. Supporters of other parties do not share the position of the American President.
90% of respondents believe that trump wants to establish the supply of American gas to Europe. "The Germans clearly see that the debate about the "Nord stream-2" motivated economically, not politically," - said the head of Forsa Manfred Gulner. Also, the threats of imposing sanctions against German companies involved in the construction of the gas pipeline expressed by us Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell did not find support in German society: 77% of respondents consider these threats to be pressure, 91% of respondents described them as "inappropriate and inappropriate".
"Nord stream-2" envisages the construction of two gas pipeline lines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year from the coast of Russia through the Baltic sea to Germany. The cost of construction is estimated at €9.5 billion, its launch is expected before the end of 2019. The operator of the pipeline construction project is Nord Stream 2 AG, the sole shareholder of which is Gazprom. Gazprom's European partners - Wintershall, Uniper, OMV, Engie and Royal Dutch Shell - will Finance 50% of the total cost of the project, i.e. €950 million.
