OREANDA-NEWS. Prime Minister Pavel Filip today participated in a meeting on the opening of the eighth conference of the heads of institutions of the Association of Constitutional Courts using the French Language, organized in Chisinau for the first time ever. Attending the event were also President Nicolae Timofti, President of the Constitutional Court Alexandru Tanase, as well as presidents and judges of more than 30 constitutional courts and representatives of the Venice Commission.

  
In his speech, the Prime Minister welcomed the presence of specialists in the constitutional jurisdiction sector in Chisinau. Pavel Filip stressed that this event was a good opportunity to tackle subjects of interest for the Francophone society, as well as to boost the cooperation of the competent institutions from the four continents. ”The Constitutional Court watches that the laws should be enforced equally for all citizens, and the legal systems should work in line with the social justice’s requirements. This fundamental role becomes so much the more important in young democracies,” Pavel Filip said.    


At the same time, the Prime Minister said the strengthening of the state based on the rule of law, ensuring the supremacy of law and respecting the human dignity were vital for Moldova, and the role of the Constitutional Court in achieving these values was very important. “Our country’s recent history shows us that, in situations of political and social incertitude, the Court was often a decisive factor for maintaining the political and legislative action within the limits of the Constitution. We have repeatedly witnessed how the Court was above the calculations of the politics, putting an end to crises of different formats and inspiration,” Prime Minister Pavel Filip said.   


The Association of Constitutional Courts using the French Language has 45 members from Europe, Africa, North America and Asia. Moldova’s Constitutional Court joined this organization in 1997.
