OREANDA-NEWS. The Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports (I/C) Shri Vijay Goel here today flagged off Tiranga Yatra of NYKS volunteers to mark the 70th anniversary of Independence Day. The Yatra was organised to pay tributes to those who martyred themselves for the independence of the county and to infuse patriotic fervour in the hearts and minds of the young and children, Tiranga Yaatra traversed through Chandni Chowk, Town Hall, Nai Sarak, Ajmeri Gate and culminated at Central Park Connaught Place. More than 3000 Youth volunteers of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, NSS and Bharat Scouts and Guides participated in the Yatra which was received with a rousing welcome by the local people enroute. Secretary Department of Youth Affairs Shri Rajiv Gupta and Director General, NYKS Maj Gen Dilawar Singh (retd) were among the dignitaries present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Vijay Goel remembered the freedom fighters who had scarified their lives for their motherland. He called upon youth to understand the role of Gandhi, Nehru, Patel, Maulana Azad, Bhagat Singh in freedom struggle and adopt their ideals for nation building. He said that the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, took initiative to involve masses in Tiranga Yaatra to espouse nationalistic fervour and added that it should reach every corner of the country.

Amidst the rousing welcome cricketer Shri Virendra Sehwag said that it is our tricolour which gives sportspersons strength while playing for the nation. He exhorted youth to make nation clean and free from social evils.

Vice Chairman of NYKS Shri V D Sharma, addressing the gathering called upon the youth to take lead in nation building activities and keep the tricolour high and spread the message of understanding and development.

To rekindle the fervour and passion amongst youth for their motherland, the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan has so far organised 93 Tiranga Yaatras all over the county with participation of more than 70,000 youth.
