OREANDA-NEWS. Another Hungarian police contingent left for Macedonia on Monday morning. The unit comprised of twenty-five members will serve at the Macedonian-Greek border section.

Chief Commissioner of the Hungarian National Police K?roly Papp said farewell to the departing police personnel in Budapest at the headquarters of the Rapid Reaction Police Force.

The lieutenant-general said that the contingent will serve in Macedonia for thirty days, and will fulfil patrolling, accompanying and guarding functions.

He remarked that this is now the sixth Hungarian police unit which is leaving for Macedonia; as part of the former five contingents, seventy-eight people served in Macedonia.

He reiterated that in the past one year some two hundred and seventy Hungarian police personnel have performed border policing duties in ten countries. The police chiefs of the recipient countries spoke about their activities everywhere in words of praise. Hungarian police personnel have travelled in the largest numbers to Slovenia, Serbia, Macedonia and Greece.

The unit now on its way will serve with their own equipment under the management and supervision of the Macedonian police.

A key task of the Hungarian police contingent will be to prevent the illegal crossing of the state borders, to ensure regulated entry, and to monitor the movement of migrants on the sealed Balkans route, Mr Papp said.

They will additionally also have to play an active role in preventing people smuggling and uncovering the activities of people smugglers, he said, adding: some one hundred and eighty procedures have been instituted in Hungary this year due to people smuggling.
