OREANDA-NEWS. Turkish authorities are studying the proposal of the Russian Federation for the supply of Russian fighters. This was announced on Monday by the head of the Department of Defense Industry of the Republic Ismail Demir.
"We have a proposal from the Russian side, and we are evaluating this proposal. It needs to be evaluated from a financial, technical and strategic point of view. Now there is no question of giving an answer to the proposal. It's necessary to conduct a broad analysis", Demir said on air TV channel. He also confirmed that the deployment of Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems in Turkey is ongoing.
On October 25, the Turkish newspaper Daily Sabah reported that Ankara and Moscow were close to concluding an agreement to supply 36 Su-35 fighters. According to the publication, the parties can also agree that Turkey will begin to produce some components for Russian aircraft in the future. On October 22, Dmitry Shugaev, head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, announced that consultations were underway on the possible supply of Su-35 and Su-57 fighters, but the conclusion of contracts wasn't discussed yet.
