OREANDA-NEWS. Initiatives proposed by the US Presidential Administration Donald Trump to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict are contrary to international law and do not contribute to peace in the Middle East. This statement was made on Tuesday by the human rights organization Amnesty International.

“We must not be mistaken that the principle of the exchange of territories set out in the deal involves further annexation of Palestinian territory, which would be a gross violation of international humanitarian law. During the more than half-century occupation of Palestinian lands, Israel has established a system of discrimination against Palestinians, denying them fundamental rights. This transaction means the approval of such a brutal, illegal policy", said in a statement to the head of the Department of the Middle East and North Africa, the organization Phillip Luther.

Amnesty International called on the international community to reject the initiative of the American leader. On January 28, Trump announced the key provisions of the so-called deal of the century - a plan for a Palestinian-Israeli peace settlement. 

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu supported the initiative and expressed readiness for the immediate start of peace talks. Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas and representatives of the Hamas radical movement, meanwhile, strongly rejected the proposals of the US president.
