OREANDA-NEWS. The Council of Europe's Committee against Torture equates police brutality in Bosnia and Herzegovina with torture.

According to the report published by the Committee, it found significant allegations of physical as well as psychological violence by law enforcement officers. The police officers were accused of kicking, punching, slapping, beating with batons, baseball bats, wooden signs and even plugged electric cables, as well as instigating an execution with the use of working firearms.

This report was prepared on the basis of the testimony of victims of police brutality of citizens. The staff of the Committee for Combating Torture interviewed people detained and convicted in the prisons of Sarajevo, Mostar and Banja Luka, as well as patients of two psychiatric departments in Sokolac.

According to the results of this survey, it was revealed that most of the most serious attacks were carried out by judicial police officers in order to force suspects to confess to a crime, as well as by employees of special units during arrest.

The Committee on Combating smetki takte claims in its report that the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina took this appeal under its control back in 2020. Even then, the Ministry held a meeting with representatives of the police, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to review a number of violations.
