Activists in Kazakhstan Presented Demands to the Authorities

OREANDA-NEWS. In Kazakhstan's Zhanaozen, activists presented five demands to the authorities. This is reported by the ORDA Telegram channel.
These demands include: regime change; holding popular elections of akim (heads) of each region and city, people themselves must choose; the return of the 1993 Constitution; civil activists should not be harassed; coming to power of a person outside the system, recognized as revolutionary; not from power circles.
In Kazakhstan, protests began on January 2 in the city of Zhanaozen, Mangistau Oblast, after the price for a liter of liquefied gas increased to 120 tenge (about 21 rubles). Before that, the price for a liter of gas was 60 tenge. Two days later, clashes between protesters and the police and the military began in Almaty and a number of other cities. Clashes also took place in Aktobe, Taraz, Aktau and other settlements.
Against the background of the ongoing events, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Askar Mamin and his government.
Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that they are closely monitoring the situation in Kazakhstan. “We are closely following the development of the situation in Kazakhstan. There is no data on the injured Russian citizens, ”the message says.
