OREANDA-NEWS Access to sites associated with Yandex (MOEX: YNDX) is closed in Latvia. In the future, access to Yandex Music will be blocked. The decision to block was made by the National Council for Electronic Media of Latvia (NEPLP), Ivar Abolins, a representative of the state agency, said on the social network X. Yandex declined to comment.

On April 7, 2022, NEPLP blocked access to 16 Russian Internet resources in Latvia, including yandex.ru , mail.ru , websites of the Kremlin, Moskovsky Komsomolets, Channel One, Vedomosti, REN TV, the State Duma, Interfax and RBC. The decision was justified by the fact that the sites spread distorted and false information about events in the world, including military operations on the territory of Ukraine. This, according to the ministry, may pose a threat to the national security of Latvia.

Yandex disagreed with the NEPLP decision and filed an appeal to the Latvian court, which will consider the application of the Russian company on February 29, 2024.
