OREANDA-NEWS. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe intends to resolve the issue of a peace treaty with Russia and aims to intensify ties with China, including the implementation of the state visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Tokyo. He made the corresponding statement at a press conference in Chengdu on Tuesday, where he held talks with South Korean President Moon Jae In and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.
“I am aimed at resolving the issue of a peace treaty with Russia”, the prime minister quoted national news agencies as saying. “We will conclude it by resolving the territorial issue, which we consider it our duty”.
Shinzo Abe emphasized that he has made significant progress in relations with China. He noted the special importance of the upcoming visit of the PRC President to Japan next spring. "This will provide a chance to show the world that Japan and China are ready to fulfill their responsibility to maintain peace and stability on the planet", he said. Answering a question about the situation in Hong Kong and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of the PRC, the Japanese prime minister called on Beijing to "resolve issues through dialogue".
