OREANDA-NEWS Regions with low traffic accidents were offered to pay extra money. This way of dealing with the problem was found effective by the head of the public system "Ensuring road safety" Konstantin Krokhmal, his words are transmitted by NSN.

So far, the increase in the number of surveillance cameras on the roads has not affected traffic safety in any way. Therefore, it is important that fines are not only earned, but also used to reduce the number of accidents, the auto expert believes.

"It is necessary to give quotas for subsidizing the installation of cameras in hard-to-reach and dangerous places. It is necessary to carry out more work of the traffic police in the regions, with the governors. The authorities should be interested not only in receiving fines, but also in safety," Krokhmal explained.

Additional funding can be provided to regions where the accident rate is significantly reduced, the specialist suggested. At the same time, special attention should be paid to the southern direction and federal highways. "There should be zero accidents, it is in our power. China, for example, has achieved this," Krokhmal stressed.

Earlier, the safest locations in Moscow for motorists became known. The Eastern district turned out to be the leader of the rating — there were only two accidents there in the first half of 2024.
