OREANDA-NEWS The permanent mission of Russia to NATO confirmed on Monday the meeting of the NATO - Russia Council (NRC) at the level of ambassadors on October 31 in Brussels.

"We confirm that a meeting of the NATO - Russia Council will be held on October 31, during which it is planned to discuss the problems of military security, prevention of dangerous incidents in the interests of de-escalation of military and political tension, as well as other topical issues of European security," the permanent mission told journalists.

Earlier, the headquarters of the North Atlantic Alliance reported about the meeting. They stressed that this meeting "will be part of NATO's dual approach to relations with Russia, based on strong defense and substantive dialogue." This meeting will be the eighth in the last two years.

During the meeting will discuss the situation around the possible US withdrawal from the Treaty on intermediate-range missiles. According to the Director of the Department of European cooperation of the Russian foreign Ministry Andrei Kelin, this step of Washington "is fraught with uncontrolled arms race with devastating consequences for the economy." The countries will discuss the situation with conventional armed forces in Europe, including in the context of the Alliance held in Norway unprecedented scale exercises Trident Juncture 2018 ("Single Trident - 2018") with the participation of more than 50 thousand. man. In addition, the parties will once again repeat their positions on Ukraine.

The NATO-Russia Council was established in 2002 and its work was virtually interrupted in 2008 after the events in Georgia. Until 2014, meetings were held only at the level of ambassadors, but then they were frozen. The Council resumed its work only at the beginning of 2016. Prior to this, the Embassy meetings of the NRC were held several times a month on a wide range of security issues.
