OREANDA-NEWS   A fire on board the Korean ship Ah Shin with a Russian crew has been eliminated, there are no injuries, the Russian Professional Union of Sailors told RIA Novosti.

"According to our information, the fire has been extinguished, the ship is in the roadstead waiting for the replenishment of the fire extinguishing system with carbon dioxide. The Ah Shan vessel sails under the flag of Panama, but belongs to a Korean company," said Igor Kovalchuk, deputy head of the trade union. He added that there is a collective agreement of the Federation of Korean Seafarers' Unions on board. The International Federation of Transport Workers (ITF), which protects the rights of seafarers around the world. Thus, the rights of seafarers are protected," he explained.

Earlier on Monday, the specialized news portal "Marine Bulletin" reported that the Korean car carrier Ah Shin, located off the coast of Vietnam with a fully Russian crew of 21 people, has been fighting a fire on cargo decks for the fourth day. A fire on a ship sailing from South Korea to Singapore with 4,530 cars and 1,356 tons of petroleum products on board occurred on February 3. Since the crew could not cope with the fire on their own, the captain decided to change course to the nearest harbor in Vietnam.

According to the editor of the "Marine Bulletin", an expert on maritime transportation Mikhail Voitenko, cases of spontaneous combustion of batteries on car carriers that occur during the transportation of electric vehicles have recently become more frequent.
