Ukraine and U.S.agreed to deepen cooperation in delivering reforms and implementing joint economic projects - a meeting of PM and Assistant Secretary of State
OREANDA-NEWS Ukraine counts on considerable assistance and unwavering support of the U.S. Government in implementing reforms and overcoming external challenges. This statement was issued by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman during a meeting with Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Aaron Wess Mitchell, who is on a visit to Kyiv.
"We went through a difficult time, but managed to keep the situation under the control and we preserved. Hence, today we need to ensure internal system changes and overcome external challenges. It is of utmost importance to feel your support on this path and we hope to continue (this process)", stressed the Prime Minister. "We moved to a new level of problem solving. Thus, we will need somewhat different volumes of resources. If earlier we needed funds to stabilize the situation in the country, today we are talking about supporting the introduction of transformations in education, health care in other sectors. And we want to obtain the result."
The Head of Government briefed the interlocutor on the details of far-reaching reforms, especially in the social sector, in the sphere of corporate governance and management of state assets, as well as in the sphere of construction of commodity markets, inter alia the gas market.
In turn, the Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs emphasized that Ukraine remains a vital issue on the agenda of the U.S. Government. "We are talking about Ukraine's role in the global perspective. We see the progress of your reforms and we support it. It is essential that you, as the Prime Minister, demonstrate leadership in reforming issues, creating of a favorable business environment and opening up Ukraine's potential. You have our support and we will involve our partners in this process," underscored Aaron Wess Mitchell.
In the course of the meeting, the parties touched upon cooperation with international financial organizations - the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, as well as further implementation of joint projects in energy, transport, primarily in the manufacture of railway equipment and locomotives with localization in Ukraine, mutual trade and other sectors. According to data of the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine, the trade volume between the two countries has increased by 60% up to $ 2.3 billion for the last eight months of this year, and moreover, the interlocutors placed a special emphasis on the fact the potential of these relations is not yet exhausted.
"We see the potential for fruitful and long-term cooperation. And the Government is committed to ensuring everything that will be needed to support these projects," the Head of Government stated.
